Gene Smart’s Top 10 for 2011

As we pause at the end of this year, we are struck by what an amazing year 2011 has been for Gene Smart and our mission to empower individuals to take control of their health and live more abundantly. Our top priority is to impact more people by building awareness of the healthy anti-inflammatory eating resources at GeneSmart.com. As we pursue our mission, here’s our Top 10 List of what we are thankful for in 2011:
1. Dr. Oz Features our Omega-3 Test
Back in 2009 we pioneered the first
omega-3 test that allows individuals to check their
Omega-3 Index and
Omega-6 to Omega-3 Ratio using a convenient home test kit. For a January 2011 segment of The Dr. Oz Show called ‘Know Your Omegas,’ we tested the omega-3 levels of several of audience members, which were revealed by Dr. Oz during the show. Dr. Oz’s enthusiastic support of omega-3 testing on National TV provided a major boost for awareness of the importance of this test!

2. Made to Crave Webcasts
Lysa Terkeurst honored Dr. Chilton by inviting him to be her guest expert on healthy eating & exercise principles for the webcasts supporting her new book,
Made to Crave. Dr. Chilton had a great time and many of Lysa’s fans discovered GeneSmart.com as a ‘how to’ resource in their quest to crave God and not food.
Made to Crave went on to become a New York Times Best Seller and one of the most popular Christian books of 2011.
3. Ground Breaking Genetic Research
Dr. Chilton published a groundbreaking study that reveals how individuals of African ancestry have genetics to process omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids differently than those of European descent, possibly leading to higher levels of inflammation and incidence of inflammatory diseases when faced with a typical American diet. The findings may also have important implications for solutions to prevent chronic childhood malnutrition in Africa and around the world. Read a summary in the

7. Giving Back
Dr. Chilton has a big heart for children in Africa. Through his non-profit, several new cinderblock homes were built for child-headed orphan households in Masoyi, South Africa over the past two years. Plans are underway to expand this ‘Heroes Helping Heroes’ initiative to America.
8. Our Hall of Famer
One of our founders, Keith Wakeman, President of
Cherry Street Innovation, was inducted into the Illinois State University College of Business Hall of Fame. Keith is a business strategist and entrepreneur dedicated to creating new ventures to improve the health & vitality of America.
9. More Breakthrough Genetic Research
One of Dr. Chilton’s recent studies uncovered a relationship between an individual’s genetics and whether they will benefit from a particular nutrition-based product to manage certain inflammatory diseases, creating the foundation for an important new Gene Smart® Genetic Test.
