Omega 3 Reviews - Which Omega 3 Is Best?

One of the most common questions from participants in the Gene Smart clinical study was “which Omega 3 product should I use?”  Many participants visited several stores and brought in multiple bottles before they found one that Dr. Chilton would allow them to use for the Gene Smart Anti Inflammatory Diet & Exercise Program.  Since that first clinical study, Gene Smart has developed its own premium quality Omega 3 Supplement that meets the recommended specifications of Dr. Chilton  and is designed especially to increase the Omega 3 Index and deliver on the criteria in the Omega 3 Reviews below.

The world of supplements can be very confusing and overwhelming.  What makes one supplement better than another?  What are the key bioactives and how much do I need?  What are the important specifications?  What if the levels are too high?  Is the product in a form that is bio-available to my body, or will it simply pass through my system? How do I know the products are safe?

Omega 3 Reviews - How to Choose an Omega 3 Supplement.  Look for EPA and DHA.

  1. Key types of Omega 3: EPA and DHA from fish oil.  EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the two primary Omega 3s in fish oil that have been determined to be the primary bioactive components that account for many of the health benefits of fish.
  2. Concentration: Highly concentrated.  About 60% or more of the oil in the soft gel should be EPA + DHA.  This concentration will allow you to get a full days supply of your Omega 3 in just two soft gels.  Fewer soft gels helps many people stick to a routine and get enough Omega 3 each day.  If your fish oil is not concentrated, you may need to take about four capsules just to get your Omega 3s, and 70% or more of the oils you are consuming are something other than EPA & DHA.
  3. Levels: Approximately 1200 mg of combined EPA + DHA in a two soft gel serving.  This will help ensure you achieve the targeted 1250 – 1500 mg or more of combined EPA & DHA daily from a combination of fish in your diet and supplements, which are the levels known to be heart-healthy and anti-inflammatory.
  4. Safety – Look for fish oil that has been molecularly distilled in order to remove any trace of heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and other chemicals and ocean borne contaminants that may be present in some deep water fish so you only consume pure fish oil.

Taking Omega 3 Supplements

It’s very important to always take fish-oil supplements with your meals. If you take your supplements between meals, they won’t be properly digested and you won’t reap their anti-inflammatory benefits.
