10 Tips to Jump Start Your Health

Making positive changes may seem overwhelming at times, especially when it comes to your health. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part. We are here to help! 1. Set Goals

Know where you are going even if you are not sure exactly how you will get there yet. Identifying your specific goals will help you set up a plan. Set reasonable goals to reach in multiple measures of overall health such as weight, blood pressure, LDL and HDL cholesterol and Omega-3 Index.

2. Use Your Support System

We all have friends and family that we trust with the most intimate details of our lives. Why not share your personal journey with a loved one? Better yet, if you know someone who shares your desire and quest to a healthier life, sponsor each other. Sometimes just a five minute phone call is all it takes to keep you motivated and inspired.

3. Smart Snacks

No one should go hungry!. Here are some snacks that are healthy and taste great: Almonds, Edimame, Apples with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter, Carrots and Sweet Bell Peppers with Hummus just to name a few!

4. Find Ways to Eat Dark-Skinned Fruit

Dark-Skinned Fruits are an excellent souce of Polyphenols which are nutrients known to influence the genes that control inflammation. Put some in your high fiber cereral for breakfast. Become a smoothie fanatic by experimenting with different combinations of berries and fat free yogurts to find the perfect smoothie for you.

5. Get Good Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important factors in determining how you feel. Rest accordingly and try to avoid caffiene at night. Invest in a comfortable bed to make sure you are resting without hurting your back and kneck. Try to think of somthing relaxing to wind down whether it is calming music, reading a book or just plain lights out with a fan going.

6. Become a Fiber Fanatic

Including fiber in your diet is the single most imortant factor to your weight loss. Fiber helps you feel fuller, for longer. You can add fiber by replacing low fiber cereal with high fibery cereal, replacing white bread with whole wheat high fiber bread and eating fruits and veggies that are rich in fiber. 7. Take Walks

Find time in your life to walk. Try to put a walk into your daily routine whether it is first thing in the morning, during your lunch break or in the evenings after dinner. You will be amazed what a little extra walking can do for your health and overall outlook on life.

8. Find an Omega-3 Source

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to drastically reduce the rate of inflammation in your diet. You should try to consume 1,250-1500 mg of EPA and DHA per day by eating high Omega-3 Fish and through quality fish oil supplements such as the Gene Smart Omega-3 Fish Oil brand. 

9. Take a Deep Breath and Relax

10. Enjoy Life
